Hyperbaric oxygen therapy

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy promotes recovery from injuries by reducing swelling, inflammation, pain and by oxygenating damaged tissue. It reduces the need for pain medications and clears the body from the medication byproducts.
In healthy people oxygen reduces the effect of aging, cleans the body from toxins and protects against it effect. Oxygen stimulation of stem cells production and release is important new discovery for health maintenance.

Wound care

Advanced wound care at BaroMedical offers selection of most advanced and effective wound dressings to speed up the healing and minimize pain (and need for pain medication). Wound care is very efficient when used in combination with hyperbaric oxygen therapy and/or electrical stimulation. Wound healing stages are changing faster in enriched oxygen environment.

Acute wounds in a healthy person, such as due to trauma or post surgery, follow phases of inflammation, proliferation, and maturation.  Hyperbaric oxygen has  distinct  beneficial effect in each stage promoting healing.  Initially, reducing inflammation, swelling and pain thru vasoconstriction and immediate high amount of oxygen to initiate healing of the injured tissue without scarring.
Oxygen stimulates release of growth factors and proliferation of neutrophils and fibroblasts that synthesize collagen which is the major component of acute wound connective tissue. Oxygen stimulates the budding and growth of the new blood vessels - capillaries so called angiogenesis, which further improve delivery of nutrients, oxygenation of tissue and granulation. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is used as preventive measure and treatment of infection and in  people with poor circulation or  systemic disease (diabetes, multiple sclerosis, lupus).

Chronic wounds
that have been locked in certain stage due to infection,  poor circulation (old age, chronic problem diabetes

Electrical stimulation

Electrical stimulation is the therapy where electrical currents are delivered trhu the skin electrodes to activate muscle contractions or nerve conduction. Small contractions improve muscle blood flow, relieving spasm,  pain and improving range of motion. When combined with hyperbaric oxygen improved blood flow becomes supersaturated with oxygen yielding higher effect and faster recovery  than each therapy on its own (ref). When nerve is stimulated such as in people who lost the control of their muscles (i.e. stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury) we can elicit a functional movement. (pict. of Chan grasping a ball).  The mechanism is not clearly known, but the combination of nerve electrical stimulation, physio and hyperbaric oxygen therapy improves the control of the movement, reducing synergism, spasm, fatigue,  allowing for selectivity, repeatability and strength.

Mirociroculation assessment

Microcirculation is the network of the smallest of the blood vessels at the end of arterial and venous system where the all important nutrient exchange happens,  important for the cell metabolism.  Assessment of the microcirculatoons is non-invasive, non painful and is very important in evaluating the progress and success of the hyperbaric oxygen therapy and other treatment options.
